Mama Shelter

Really hip venue slightly out of town it is in the new “happening” district of Paris. A bit of a dark, sultry place, it isn’t a great choice if you are on a business trip but if romance or partying are your fun of choice, this is worth a look. A creation of the legendary Philippe Starck, prices start at 79 euros a night, so it is reasonable and chic.

Obscure things like a microwave in the room make it a little bit different from other hotels – the La MAMA room has the feel of a sensual refuge complete with 100% cotton satiny smooth sheets, said microwave, minibar, 24 inch IMAC (TV, radio, cd/dvd, Internet … and free wifi). Ok so there is even an office in this one so we are sure that the lighting is a bit better.

What was a little strange is that the bar and restaurant are open plan but only certain menus are served in certain areas of seating so don’t get your heart set on pizza if you are in the wrong place. Ask before you order (or sit down). The bar is fun though, you can sip cocktails while playing fussball.
