There are so many places to grab a bite in Manhattan that we thought we would tell you about our favourites. I have already written about the fabulous new Andaz hotel on 5th Avenue so while over here for Fashion Week I couldn’t resist trying out the restaurant.
Whether brunch or dinner, the 5th Avenue and 41st Street restaurant at the hotel serves fresh, seasonal food that is neither fussy or pretentious. The claim to fame is that every dish on the list of main ingredients supports local farmers and purveyors so you can enjoy the Feather Ridge Farm eggs or a bagel with lox from Russ & Daughters, a Lower East Side institution. We were lucky enough to pop in for an evening meal and, not knowing what to expect, had a fabulous dinner.
It was tricky to know what to choose, with everything from chicken schnitzel to steak or burger. With no chips on the menu you can have potato chips, roast potatoes or mash to accompany your mains, along with veg or salad. So, healthy and a bit different, with the American classics.
What is special about the restaurant is the open plan, sleek feel. You can see into the kitchen without feeling like you are in it and sliding doors and shutters pivot to change the vibe of the room throughout the day.
There is even a section at the back where you can grab a coffee and pastry or a sandwich earlier on in the day that, by night, turns into a long table for friends to meet for a gathering or cocktail. Book a table next time you are in Manhattan, you won’t be disappointed.
